WMT at the Teaching World Music Symposium
We'll be sharing our project and some updates at a workshop outside of Chicago this April!
We're excited to share that the editors of the World Music Textbook will be presenting a workshop at the upcoming 50th Anniversary World Music Symposium, titled "From the Exotic to the Global: Perspectives and Reflections on Teaching World Music in the 21st Century." This event will take place from April 8-11, 2025, at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois.
Our workshop will focus on the collaborative efforts involved in creating the World Music Textbook, a free and accessible resource designed for educators, students, researchers, and the general public. We will discuss our strategies for increasing access to underrepresented voices and diverse writing styles, as we aim to broaden the audience for world music scholarship.
The symposium will provide a platform for music educators, ethnomusicologists, musicologists, composers, performers, and interdisciplinary scholars to exchange innovative ideas about globalization in music practices in the 21st century. Please consider joining us to connect with fellow educators! For more details about the symposium, please visit the official website.
